DR100 MK2 Red peak indicator ?

So, I FINALLY got my DR100 MK2 and the MM-1 together at last... and wow, I can't believe how good the recordings sound. I'm almost speechless. It's so crisp and clear without the slightest hint of gain... seriously this is just awesome.

My MK012 with the original DR100 compared to the MK2 w/ the MM-1 is completely laughable. It truly doesn't even sound like the same mic.

That said, I am slightly worried. I put the recorder on low gain and set the MM-1 to 0 to start. From 0, I adjusted it one click or level up to 18db. Even at 18db of preamp gain it was giving me the red light / peaking indicator on the recorder. But it sounded perfect. Everything was peaking around -10 to -20 on the recorder. Is this normal?

Do you have the limiter switched on as it may be that the red led shows when limiting is happening, it may also be that the meters are a lot slower to respond and they have set the led threshold so you can see the onset of clipping easier.

Just don't push the levels too much as you are always better off leaving some headroom and should peak to around -10 as you are doing.

I do have the limiter turned on, but just on the MM-1. No red light or peaking indicator anymore though.

The DR-100 Mk2 has a noise-floor of -80 dB RMS or better, so you can lower your recording level if you need to.

The Sound Devices limiters are great, so I never have the limiter on the recorder turned on. ( with some recorders the built-in limiter will degrade the audio )
