How does the preamp noise compare on the two. in the in-depth research I have done it seems as though the 60D is a bit better, but I can't get any real confirmations of that. I just returned my Dr100 to get the 60D and I will know on thursday for sure, but I am just curious.

OK, so apparently no one has any experience with the combo. Let me expand the question.

How is the PREAMP noise on the DR60D compared to an H4N?

Need some help here! :)

I have never used either the H4n or DR60, but generally, Tascams are quieter than Zooms. Just don't expect high-end performance out of a low budget machine.. you get what your pay for.

Not said with absolute certainty, but Tascams in similar price ranges are probably going to sound, well, pretty similar. There is a definite difference in preamps between the DR100 and the DR-680 if that helps you.. And audio quality, recorded at the quality level of this equipment-production, is much more about skill than a very small difference in preamp quality; there aren't really many silver bullets to be had. What would be much more important is to buy the box that has a particular feature you need for your workflow or how the ergonomics of the box work for you.
