DR-100 MK1 vs DR-40

Hello,

I have the option of purchasing an Ex-Display Tascam DR-100 for a really good price of £170. Before I put my money down on this what improvement will I get from this compared with a Tascam DR-40, apart from seperate audio levels for each stereo track? I presume that it also has better sound quality than the Zoom H4n? If anybody could help it would be most appreciated. It will be used for recording interviews and ambience (with a rode shotgun, lav and the built in mics) for a project where I will be shooting solo out of my backpack for like 4 months.

Any replies are most appreciated!

Jake

There have been many posts about these two items, may I suggest a search. The one thing that made a difference in my purchase is the DR40 has an ability to record a second track at a lesser level to help in case your primary track clips. Useful for those once in a lifetime interviews/moments.

Hello Prexdealer, I have searched and read a lot. However I haven't found a definitive comparison. I also really liked the fact that the DR-40 can record a safety track but I feel the DR100 could be a lot better quality. I can buy them for the exact same price or I wouldn't have even considered the DR100 at its RRP of around £300
