DPCFilms CableCam

Im gona start working on a new cable cam, my last one was just bolted together and i was having problems with that. Well i just bought a welder so i am going to make it again, i have some ideas for a pan tilt also so i will try to get that made up.

I'm using the MATCO 2.4 Ghz 8 channel trans and recv. (model #: ASK-2008T, ASK-2008R, ASK-CASEB) They sell the parts ala cart and they provide a case for the receiver, but not for the transmitter. The transmitter is small and does not take up a lot of room, but trying to find a case and custom fitting may or may not work for you. In addition you will need an external battery pack to both items. I'm using a AA battery thing-a-ma-bob that I found at FRYS.

The set up works fine for line of sight and I've used it up to 300 feet without any issues. I ran some additional tests around the house. With the cable cam in the backyard I walked around to the font of the house (150' or so) and was able to get a signal, but the picture was slightly degraded because the signal had to go through the house.

I don't have any experience with other wireless system, so I don't know how it compares. However, overall my experience with their customer service has been exceptional.

The project has been on hold... so no new updates. As for the plans... I will see if I get some time over the holidays to put something together.

I got new wheels machined, but no footage... Here's a pic

Well its a complex 3D shape cut from aluminium so it wont be either. My bet is a 4 or 5 axis CNC machine.

Either that or the shape of the wheel was cut on a 3 axis mill and then it was put into a lathe for the groove cutting.

yep and it was milled in NASA labs  he he

dont complicate it, it can be simply made on lathe and then on 2 axis mill

...3axis mill... if it was a 2 axis mill it would only cut in two directions, so that would be X and Y but no Z, so it would be like an etchasketch, no way of lifting the tool up and putting it down again.

Quickest way would be to cut the outer shape with a 3axis mill then stick it in a lathe to do the rim... unless they have a ball shaped tool for the mill that can also cut the groove....

hello,
i found some months ago a website of a "cable camera" builder, it was an us web site,
i forgot to save it in my favorites and now i can't find it,
is there some guys who know which website i'm talking about?
Thank you.

Are you referring to this cablecam? http://www.nobletproductions.com/CameraTrolley.htm

We've got a small, but growing community of fellow cablecamers here. This site also has a lot of information about "pro" as well as "DIY" cablecams, so if my link above is not what you're looking for you might find in one of the other posts.

And for those interested I've posted some updates on my latest design here. It's still a work in progress as I've come to the conclusion that the HVX200 is just too heavy for a reasonably priced DIY cablecam rig..! If it were only 3 lbs then I would be set.. but until then more tinkering ahead!

Hello Thank you for your answer,
your link is not what i've found, it is similar, but the total price was more around 8000$, if i remember well the trolley got a pelicase on the top for all the electronic parts, but now i'm not sure anymore... I've looked at the cablecam.org forum, it's very cool, i've looked at every topic but i didn't find the company, the website i'm looking for.
Thank you for your help. :)

I am currently building one and got some ideas.
first i will use 2 steel cables so balancing will be limited.
probably a third cable for security and will help for stability.
then , as i got 2 cables, i can feed the electricity, so , there will be no need to have heavy battery on the moving part, so fadter to move, less wieght on cable, easier to climb.

Sooo your planning on running electricity through the lines?,kind of like those old toy cars and tracks? sound good,but... your gunna need a good ground so you don't get shocked!

That or just keep it up so high nobody will ever touch it. Kind of like trolley wires.
