DP Slider

For those of you who didn't attend the IN[FOCUS] event, Don Pham had the DP slider up and this thing is super smooth, almost silent, and versatile! Much more stable than the zaza slider (or any slider made with igus parts). I built an IGUS slider and it's great, but the DP Slider is better in a lot of ways. Don, if you read this and you want to sponsor me, feel free to

Yeah, I just checked out the prices for the DP Sliders to confirm my suspicions, and just as I thought, very over priced in my opinion. It's one thing to develop and manufacture something from scratch and charge a premium for the product because its in a niche market, but these slider-style tripod dollys have been around now for a while, so no one can claim a huge expense of R&D, plus independent manufacturing costs to justify charging such a high price. It's just another case of video/film industry = expensive equipment, when that doesn't have to be true. In my opinion the most original, and unique slider-style tripod dolly is from Kessler. At least they gave it their own spin and added some additional features.

Really? Because I have one and they used exactly the parts from Igus and basically added a rotating belt drive, which really isn't that useful. I like the product but $500 is a pretty high mark-up (in fact the highest) of any other slider manufacturers out there.

They even make a cheaper version of the IGUS rail called Modular Guide but it's more heavy duty.

I see you're very new to this forum, so I'll give you the benefit of doubt, but you shouldn't make statements like this without some sort of proof. Have you built a camera slider using the PBC rail? Have you posted any video showing how smooth it slides or how much 'heavier-duty' it is?

Yes it is cheaper, but you get what you pay for. I received a sample and tried to build a slider using the Modular Guide. I could never get the carriage or glide blocks adjusted to allow for a smooth slide. The quality is nowhere near that of the igus rail. Have you actually built an igus slider so you can really compare the two?

As they say in the movies...show me the money. I hate to see people mislead.

Why do you get so defensive? Isn't this a DIY thread, not a marketplace?

I've made 4 sliders, with 4 different products, and much like you, I thought I'd start making them and selling them. But as I can see, there's really no point, because the market is already full, but I can still try to help the DIY's like myself.

I'm not a videographer like you, I'm an engineer, but I will gladly make a DIY video for the forum members to make cheap and easy, good quality sliders. Stay tuned!

just bought a dp slider... help?

just bought a dp slider... help?

Okay, so I just bought a dp slider and I'm so excited to begin playing!! but I'm having some trouble. (a little frustrated)

Some background:
I'm shooting w/ a DVX 100B. And I have a Libec LS22 tripod. I'm using the DP Slider V1200.

Problem #1: When I set it on my tripod, it wobbles.

So, I tried it with 2 light stands. I needed a ball head, so I went to b&H and they gave me a Manfrotto 494 Mini Ball head...

Problem #2: When I try to do vertical slides, the camera gets in the way.

Can someone let me in on their set up?

thanks,
J
