I have been working in a 1280x720 project in after effects, but doing final editing in final cut pro. The final output for broadcast SD. But when i size the HD files down, i'm getting some mean matteboxing/black bars. How do I properly size the video down intro SD without getting a matte?

HELP!!!

here's one idea. this is the method i use with hvx footage. i create a dv50 anamorphic sequence at the same frame rate as my hd sequence. then i export my hd (dvcpro hd) sequence to quicktime at full rez and drop that file onto the dv50 sequence. no letterbox and keeps the footage at 4:2:2.

You could export your edited sequence to your SD format from FCP using Compressor. Turn on automatic cropping (or whatever the exact name is; I am not at my computer), which I believe is located in the frame controls tab. That should crop the sides of your HD image so that there are no bars in your final output.
