Downloading the P2 from Powerbook

Hi All:

I'm sure that this question has been answered before, but I haven't seen it. I just received my HVX200. I purchased my 4gb P2 Card several weeks ago, so I was able to download the software to use it with my 17" Powerbook in the PCI slot.

It works just fine importing it from the P2 into FCP. What I want to do is first load the files into my 80gb Firewire drive because my hd on the Powerbook only has 3 gb of memory left.

My question is how do I do that? The P2 card shows up on my Desktop just fine, and as I mentioned, if I go into FCP and go to Import File, P2, I'm able to choose the file or files that I want. How do I import all those files first to my Firewire?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Take the contents folder and drag that to your firewire hard drive. Now when you go into FCP. Go Import>Panasonic P2 When the selection boxs comes up. Hit the + button box. And find the contents folder that you drug on the hard drive. Hit open and It will look like the P2 card. Now FCP will import it and change it to .MOV. But rember those files will go to the capture scratch folder. So now you have to sets of files. So that means your 4 gigs gose to 8 gigs. So now you cand delete the contents folder and you have 4 gigs of usable info. So what you might want to do is put the card in the slot. Set your FCP scratch disk to the firewire harddrive and just import off the card. Now you have the usable files on the hard drive and you don't have to do another set.
Hope that helps some

Thank you so much for your post. Ned also just reminded me about the second part of your answer (scratch disk for my firewire)and then just import directly from the P2 to the Firewire drive and it worked perfect.

Again, thank you for your help,

eric
