Downloaded Audio Problem?

I recorded video/audio successfully with my DVX100A and the audio plays back just fine on my camera. I connected the camera using the fire wire port to my computer and "captured video" with Vegas 8 Pro. The "new project" set up window is set at the audio default, Stereo, 1 stereo buses, 44,100 sample rate, bit depth 16, quality is set to "best".

The video downloads correctly, no problems. The audio connects and downloads.
My problem appears when I place the video and audio grouping on the video and audio tracks in Vegas. The audio (talking, ambient background music) seems to continually "cut out"... there is no clicking sound or anything, just the recorded
audio almost flickering, throughout the entire audio track. It almost sounds like
holding a microphone key (switch) on an audio board and flipping it on and off
as fast as you can flip the switch.. it's kind of hard to describe, but it is there,
very noticeable and very distracting.

My first thought, after listening to the Vegas playback, was the audio recording head was dirty or the tape was bumping across something on the tape path in the camera. When I plugged in a head set and listened to the tape playback in the DVX 100A, the audio sounded fine.

I sure would appreciate any suggestions on what I am doing wrong and how I can correct the problem. I have tried downloading the tape three times, all with
the same results.

Thanks

Could be an audio card driver issue.

You could try setting the project properties to 48,000 instead of 44,100. I doubt it'll solve the problem, but it's worth a shot.

It gererally doesn't make a difference to Vegas, just as the frame rate doesn't make a difference, but it CAN send certain audio card drivers into conniptions.

Interesting. Many other apps would have a problem but I bow to your much better knowledge of Vegas. The cutting in and out sounds like a clocking issue to me but it really depends on the interface. Some will just POP periodically and some need to take a time out to get there head straight then they come back and get confused all over again.

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions! I think I figured it our... and of
course it would be an "operator problem". I went back and tried to check out
what steps I had taken when I "captured video"... and I noticed that there
were a large number of DROPPED FRAMES, which I assume meant that the corresponding AUDIO was also dropped. I had not properly set up Vegas Pro 8
so .... (as much as I hate to admit it).... it was MY FAULT. DUH!

Most things are (grin).

I'm moving along fine for now.... THANKS AGAIN!!!
