Downconverting in Final Cut?

I'm going to be shooting an event tomorrow and the client would like to have SD footage for their own piece on the event, but I would like to have the HD footage for my own keeping. I shoot with an Fx1. What would be the best way of down converting the HDV footage to SD? Can it be down when I capture the footage in final cut?

Depends how they want it and what version of FCP you have. In FCP 6 you could always play out to DV tape.

ah ok in that case you can do it via an export to Compressor and set to DV-NTSC or 8-bit uncompressed whichever they prefer. Then burn to data DVD. Though I'd suggest an external hard drive would be a lot simpler.

thanks for the help, I think that's what I'll do.

I you have a MiniDV camera handy you could always let the FX1 downconvert via FW and record it directly to MiniDV (assuming the client can take MiniDV).

I'm just going to capture everything HDV, and then pull the clips into compressor and down convert that way. Seems to be the easiest way to do it.
