Here's the deal. I know when I ask the question, many will say this topic has been covered ad inifinitim in this and other forums. I have been reading extensively on this forum, Sony's forum, DVinfo, Precompose.com and probably a couple more. Literally, I have spent 6 hours trying to wrap my noggin around what I need to do to get my 720p60 (h264 files) footage rendered in an MPEG2 file that will burn nice (not perfect) DVDs. I have Sony Vegas 10.
I've read about rendering in Vegas uncompressed, import to Virtual Dub, Resize, then back to Vegas then to MPEG2. I have had ok results but not acceptable to me. Then my head gets swimming with scripting, sharpen, unsharpen, bit rates, logarith, lanczos, AviSynth, DNxHD 220x 60i, and on and on. You get the point.
So my question is this:
Is there a down and dirty way (in Sony Vegas) to take source footage (720p60, h264) and, without too many variable/exporting/importing/permutations and external programs, to render out a decent downconverted MPEG2 file for burning to sd dvd. I know the next question from you, my forum friends, is "What do you mean by 'decent'"? Well, minimizing moire, aliasing, ghosting, artifacting and the like. I would like to preserve the "look" of HD understanding that this is not completely possible converting to SD.
If I'm beating a dead horse, my apologies. If you have a clear and concise and relatively simple solution, my thanks.
Or maybe I should just go water skiing instead?
Best wishes to all of you, Jeff
