double action-what software ?? help please

I'm planning to make film which will have character and as the film progresses the character becomes two persons ..but I don't know any technique... but I can handle a software ..so guys help me out with what software should I use to present two identical characters at the same time face to face
 
Well I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about but if you mean two people at the same time in the same shot, you just shoot the sceen twice, with the actor being one person and then being the other and in post you layer the two shots using final cut or adobe premiere. i believe in adobe you set the opacity to 50% on each clip so you can see both persons.
 
if you just want a locked-down camera shot where the same actor appears on both sides of the screen at once, then yes, you shoot the actor twice, then any professional NLE software will be able to combine the shots to make the actor appear to be on screen twice.

but that all gets tremenously more complicated if you have a moving camera, or the 'two' actors need to physically interact in any way or move in front of each other

actually it is about split personality the actors are not just two but more than that and it is a silent film but there will be non-verbal communication between them. I wanted a shot from the top of the corner of the room where all actors appear on the screen
 
you will need a light controlled room, or set, make sure they don't overlap each other(that includes there shadows),try to plan it a bit before shoot, in post depending on the movement of the chars, you will have to individually mask every single char video, or track and mask if the chars are moving in the frame too much.
 
sorry, i noticed i haven't given you an example, any software with a mask that you can adjust it's form, since there will be more than two char, but you could get away with rectangle cropping if the chars are too far away from each other, usually you would use motion or after effects, or for simple cropping of parts or the image, you could use the nle your using, also shooting a few seconds(or something close to the period of the effect) of the room empty is very important and life saving some times, if there isn't allot of movement or a need for tracking, i would ideally use photoshop to mask the chars. most video and image apps have masking, so you could use any of them, but not all have tracking, or recalculate a positon or a degree of an effect, that can be usefull and time saving with video or motion.
