Arri or lowel. I can afford both, with lowel dv creator 55 you get 4 lights totas, umbrella the lot. With Arri it's a set of 3 lights.

Im going to shoot short films, weddings, commercials. Which would be the best.

This may sound like a silly Q but I'v seen in films they use lights which are more white (flurecent) and Arri's are more skin toned. Which is an all rounder?

umm, hate to break it to you bro, but lowels and arris and every other tungsten light out there is going to give you the same exact color of light. that being said. Arris are just better. They hold up better, the focus better, and they are easier to work with. However, you are going to need/want a chimera, which is a few extra bucks.

Arris are heavier, but last longer and are better quality. Lowels are incredibly portable, and light, but somewhat fragile. For the same money, a lowell kit will always have more options. I'd only buy a lowell kit if it comes with a Rifa light.

Arri's will last you longer, but if you have a simpler kit, you're going to need some experience to improvise.

Good luck!

With very few exceptions, Lowel's are no where near the quality of Arri. Mole is another brand worth considering. If you have the budget, Dedo's are by far the best focusable instrument made, but very expensive.

Which is best Arri, no doubt. Lowell lights are open face, hard to control, throw an uneven light and if a bulb ever blows can be dangerous. Arri lights are much better, especially if your talking about fresnels. As stated Moles are stouter then the Arris. That's why you se mainly Moles on movie sets.

I always promise myself I am going to pick up a dedolight kit and then something else comes up. There is a 3 light kit on ebay right now for $2300.00 looks nice, but not for me something else has come up..

I own Arris, Lowels and Moles. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. Lately, I have been using a Lowel V-Light through a small Chimera as a key source, along with an Arri 150 as a rim/hair light. Between the two lights, they are really small and light weight, a big plus when you are shooting all over the place by yourself or with just one assistant.

Smaller and lighter is better unless you are in the studio.
