Dorrough reading phase alarms with standard sound-ideas room ambiances.

I was adding some sound-ideas looped ambience to something (simply moving air) and unlike my mono fill-farmed "air" from the dialogue tracks that were put through reverb, the bucket standard Room Tone 3.caf (aiff) immediately causes the Dorrough meter (at -20) on the master bus to clock phase red alarm (phase cancellation). There is nothing on that stereo audio track, nor bus sends (no TDM/RTAS)
muting the track makes it go away. The ambiance was a more frequency rich replacement for farmed monophonic ambiance obtained from the dialogue track and expanded using IR-1 and Stereo Imager (this is not 5.1) it matches, but trips up phase cancellation in the mix.

Any ideas? or Is this normal for those types of atmospheres/ambient air moving (esp. from sound-ideas, esp from the subset that ships with FCP) and should it be ignored (methinks not) but maybe I'm missing something, so running it by someone in this forum.

I'm sticking with the fill-farmed "silence/air" for now.

Thanks

Some of the older Sound Ideas stuff is mono, people didn't record much in stereo till fairly recently (last thirty years or so) so most of what SI started off with will have been mono. FCP packs a lot of the older SI stuff. The caf versions in FCP may be 5.1 but they are "created" 5.1 in most/ all cases. THere is VERY little 5.1 recorded material around. Probably anything in the SI 1000 series is mono so if it's showing as stereo then it's a "created" stereo.

Thanks, the CAF showed as stereo (2 channel vs. 6 in the loops browser) during conversion to AIFF, based on your input and historical knowledge - I must assume that the phase trigger is due to "created" stereo in the CAF file.

Thanks kindly, this helped explain a lot.
