doorway Dolly

A while back maybe a year or so ago, someone posted pics and I think a how to on how to make your own doorway dolly by using a go kart frame, plywood, and pneumatic tires among other things. I still have those pictures saved on my computer but I am having a tough time trying to locate a flat go kart frame to use for the dolly. Anybody know where I could get one or where to look online? I already did a search for go kart frames but none of the ones I was seeing were flat like the homemade one I have pics of which looks very similiar to a Matthews dolly.

You know home depot has this green wagon that you can use as a dolly and its already built for around $80 i think. Its used for gardening. I stood on it and kind of skateboarded it around and its pretty stable and has air filled tires.

Are you serious?

You know what a dolly is right? Well a Doorway Dolly is a dolly made for going down staircases and through kitchen windows.

LMAO

I;m stuck in the office, 7pm, it's 34 degrees outside, raining, people can't drive, and I can't go home... That is exactly what I needed. Thanks John.

It's a dolly narrow enough to fit through doors without having to remove the door. Normally around 28" wide.

Norms in north hollywood makes a great doorway dolly like the mathews but is only around 1100 bucks. extra skate wheel set for it is about 275. for me, the amount of time it would take to build one isn't worth it when I can buy one that cheap.

Cheap? Last time I was in Hollywood, I bought a CAR that didn't cost that much.

Of course, it was Ford Granada.

We bought something similar (it was red) from Wal Mart while on a shoot in Missouri. It worked great as a dolly and for hauling gear.

is there a website for that NORM'S store? I have been hearing a lot of people talk about that place...

No web site. Norms is old school, in an old building with reception and deck areas that look like they haven't been updated since the seveties. I guess that's why the prices are good.

they'll send you a catalog though. Their address is 5219 Craner Avenue, North Hollywood, CA. 91601
phone 818-766-6676
they give everyone 25% off their list prices.

What's a 'doorway dolly'?

LMAO!!!!!!!!! OMG, I am in pain from laughing so hard!

Sorry... I know that this is an very old thread but I am just dying here! Classic!

btw, this thread DID help me.... I have been looking for a dolly and cannot afford the track dollies that I would like to have. Lately, I have been looking at using a garden cart, hence the reason I stumbled on this thread.

I am going to Lowes to purchase this....

At $89.95 it is a heck of a lot cheaper than an Indie or Losmandy Track dolly. AND I can cart my gear around to boot! (I think Aram stated the same thing here in this thread.)

I'll let you know how it works!

IF anyone reads this and has any advice or warnings for me... please PM me and tell me!

Thanks!

And thanks J.R. for that laugh. Wow.

oh, I don't think that it comes with the potting soil and plants!

It would on a bumpy surface. I don't know. I "drove" the thing around the Lowes for quite a while, turning corners and such. It rolls so smoothly.

When I stood in it, yes, it rocked. I would have to walk beside it. Much as I would love to ride on it, I just can't afford that right now.

btw PaPa... I saw a picture of a doorway dolly that you posted in the DIY section. THAT was nice. Did you ever come across one of those or make one yourself?

Talk about bringing a post back from the dead! LOL! I was the original poster back in 05! LOL!

Using a Bogen Super Clamp, I attached my camera to an equipment cart at work and pushed it around the hallways on tiled floors and was impressed with how smooth the shots came out. Obviously you would need to take the shot after you started pushing it to avoid getting a jerk but after your rolling it worked out well. I have not actually used it on a shoot though it was just a test thing I wanted to see if it would work.
