DOOM the Movie

.

.

Hrmmmm,

So, our 'demons' are actually DNA-modified humans? I hope they aren't trashing the whole spiritual demonic storyline in favor of a tidy secular biological explanation...

When I saw this post I thought you meant a movie of Doom, like the video game, but then I saw the trailer and saw that the rock was in it and realized that it couldn't be the game because he was never in it. HA HA HA

Details are pretty thin about the DNA-modified humans... They are intentionally not releasing any details whether or not Hell plays a part to piss us all off. Even so, I heard from many reliable sources that a lot of the creatures from Doom 3, which the movie is based off of (not the other Doom games), are in the movie. I am really crossing my fingers that it has to do with hell, and the interviews at the ComiCon were really inspiring that the movie is true to the game and the whole plot of hell being the source of the creatures.

I've seen many movies where the producers made it look like one thing before the movie came out just to stir up a buzz. See, I think it's a really great marketing tactic. The primary audience this movie is going towards is the Doom fans for the past decade. If they released all the details immediately, fans would be like "that's cool" and just pass it off and wait for it to hit theaters or wait till they can borrow a copy from a friend to burn. But by intentionally mucking the details of the film, they can stir up rage among all the fans and force them to read up on the subject and create a buzz. I think this tactic works really well, and it appears to be working here. With out trying to muck the details, I doubt so many people would be talking about the movie right now. But the exciting part IMO is that there is a lot of animitronic work rather than cheesy-ass CGI to make it look more realistic, the creatures were designed by Stan Winston and based directly off the game, and the architecture of the Mars facility is directly based off of the game, even down to the way the computer screens look. It also helps a lot that the script was written by an avid fan of the game (even though they said the script went through about 30 drafts afterwards, which could have really altered the final outcome to some real trash). Apparantly the game designers at id are really pleased with the film and taken aback at how the movie is basically a movie manifested directly from the game. But, these guys are paid to say this stuff I guess... So, only time will tell....

Actually I just realized they aren't trashing the hell story all together. Look at yahoo!'s synopsis of the movie:

There's a level 5 quarantine at a remote scientific research station on Mars, and the only souls allowed in or out are the Rapid Response Tactical Squad - hardened Marines armed to the teeth. The research being done at Olduvai station has unwittingly opened a door, and a legion of nightmarish creatures of unknown origin now stalks the countless rooms and tunnels of the facility, killing what few people remain. Sealing off the portal to Earth, Sarge (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) and his team must use every weapon at their disposal to carry out their orders.

My guess is is that the story revolves around this: While doing tests with DNA alternatives and whatnot, the scientests somehow discovered a portal to hell. If I'm not mistaken, this is pretty damn close to the game's plot. If not, it's still a pretty good backstory and similar enough. As long as hell is involved, I'll be happy.

This film looks pathetically horrible. Why? Why?

This is the prime example opf why films today SUCK. How can you guys discuss it as if it means anything?

No I'm not bagging on you. But its DOOM the MOVIE Starring a guy named The ROCK.

Its a movie they think will make money.

If i got a production budget with a 10th of what they spend on this movie i would be very happy...

Trailer is out. This time it actually has blood in it and R rating is confirmed  Oh and a whole lot of first-person shooter scenes too...
Still doesn't look convincing, though. It's nothing against Rock, it's that I have no faith in Bartkowiak. The guy used to be a good cinematographer, but he has only made crap as director :undecided

glad i found this thread before i started it. the games (all versions) have been a huge inspiration for me. i LOVE the world\aesthetic, and can compare few if any game\movie\book experiences to my first few days with the first one. based on what i have seen so far on the film..."i've got a bad feeling about this."
this film should be a team effort by John Woo (pre-hollywood), Sam Raimi (circa dead by dawn), and James Cameron (circa T2). and if i had any influence on the script, there would be a MAXIMUM of 5 or 6 lines aside from hoarsly screamed explitives. it should be non-stop, absurdly violent, and scary like a truck coming at you while you're wearing cement shoes. you should leave the theater sweaty and exausted. oh well... i have to go see it, but only a sunday matinee and after a pint or two.:(
random thought...i'm not a fan of the rock, but if directed well he really is a good choice for the central space-grunt roll if you think about the wee face at the center of the info-bar in the first game. better than Arnie (for this film, i mean) and i bet they thought about it, gov. or not.

This looks horrible. Why does Hollywood suckand who is sitting around stroking themselves on this film? What's with the 'First Person' shots? Reminds me of the crapfest UWE BULLE did in House of the Dead with his Video Game Screen Transitions

This appears to be a crappy remake of Aliens meshed with Resident Evil excpept it will suck hard.

What a joke.

I like how in all the first person shooter shots the monsters are just standing there when the guy moves around a corner.

It wasn't that big of a deal in the game, but COME ON! At least make it doing something cool. Not just standing there!

Crapfest 2006.

actually he can be good if he wanted to. i believe other words:Uwe Boll this guy is taking more game franchise that PWSA.
