This film probably would have been more well-known had it not been released in January 1974 immediately following The Exorcist.

Check it out. Probably in the horror section, though it's more of a drama.

The pacing is a tad slow in the middle, but it's a nicely crafted, suspensful, disturbing, well-acted picture.

It's kind of a downer. The ending is pretty creepy as well. And there are some interesting things going on with the editing, sound, and use of color throughout.

The ending is very creepy.

great painterly treatment of the italian city.... nice cinematography

art house horror/thriller classic

the ending was disturbing at first but then I kind of realized what I was looking at and how bizarre it was, now I cant keep from laughing my arse off

The ending freaked me out. And it spawned a few horror copycat moments of girls/women in pointy red hoods(the Brood, an episode of the Xfiles etc).

What an excellent movie. Probably the only movie ever to creep me out. Oh and don't forget the greatest ever sex scene ever put on screen - did they or didn't they? I think they did.

I ran this movie about a year ago and it had some interesting parts. But for the most part I thought it was just a little too abstract. I love weird films but they need to keep moving and this one just didn't do that.

True, this movie does hit a few speed bumps. I felt that it could have covered more ground given its length. The pacing for movies of this genre usually tends to increase throughout the picture, but this one kind of remains steady until the sequence at the end.

I enjoyed the beginning and ending equally. You have to watch it twice in a row to really appreciate the craft and deeper layers of whats going on.

And about the other inspired films, note: M. Night Shyamalan
