A quick little synopsis of this HVX thread as of late:

Panasonic - "Here's what we're making and when we expect its release and what it will cost."

Random neurotic poster (about half of this forum lately)- "Holy crap Panasonic is lying to us and trying to steal our first born! I can't believe they would do this bait and switch with us. They're monsters and will bring the downfall of my production company because I want **** faster and cheaper. Damn them! Why didn't they make a Varicam with 10 more features and modes for less than $3,000? It'll never work, what a terrible company. I can't believe they told us that the secret ingredient of the P2 cards was an oz. of Jesus' blood! The white paper doesn't corroborate this!"

I haven't been on this board for all that long, but is it just the nature of a new product that brings about this type of thread hijacking? Or is it just human consumer nature? :undecided
 
This camera is being reported in nearly every news outlet on the internet, mostly the non-industry related sites. So, there's a lot of people that read Ain't It Cool News to learn about MP3 players and see, "Oh wow, HD just like real movies" and they see the link here (all the "news" sites reference this one) and they come and post the same questions.

Problem is people that know what a VariCam is and have used one will immediately recognise the benefits of this camera and they are the people that read and don't post here. The people that post are the people who read about this camera on some random internet news site and decided they can make a movie, too. They come here, make a ruccus for two-three days, realise they're in over their heads, and move on to a new hobby, like underwater basketweaving.

And, just think: Only five more months of this, at least. :thumbup:
 
People will always find something to gripe about. It's not you, it's human consumer nature. A year ago a 6000 dollar mini varicam was a pipe dream.

I think DVXuser is experiencing growing pains. A lot more people are walking through the doors, including the occasional neurotic juvenile poster.

I remember when the DVX100 was the 'Questionable' camera. All of the XL1 users were like "Bah! 24p? Give us Frame Mode!"

And yes Kyle; the old days were mellow as yellow.

I cant help it; I am online all freakin day. I've been here all morning but have been working; I spend alot of time either on hold or pending online transactions. So it's ALT TAB ALT TAB ALT TAB all day long.

I'm a junkie.
 
I PM’ed a new user today asking him to sort of chill out and take some more time to read through some other posts/threads here and get a feel for the dynamic a bit more before posting. I’ve been online for a long, long time (it’s my business, network/connectivity programmer) and this is the only board I’ve ever joined simply because of how/when it’s moderated and all of the extremely knowledgeable people here.

It might be nice to have a “Read this first” section, 95+% of the time I have a question it’s already been asked and answered here. Also maybe have some links to some “neticate” definitions. I’m amazed at how many people don’t even understand what trolling is. The vast majority of the time it’s not what you post but how you post it since text only communication is taken in the context of the readers humor/perception only and something seemingly benign to a poster could really come off badly.

But then again it’s impossible to control completely however most board abusers (whether intentional or not) kill themselves off eventually.

LOL, I just read John's "ALT-TAB, ALT-TAB, ALT_TAB" line, that's me all day too. Outlook, IE (dvxuser), Outlook, IE, VC++, Outlook, IE...
 
Agreed. I just leave up firefox all day and this is one of my saved tabs, so I can just refresh it whenever I get back to my pc.
 
It's been a wild and woolly time at DVXuser since the HVX intro. Kinda like a national frat party rolling into a small town. :cheesy: I'm calling the craziness AHA (acute hi-def anxiety). The symptoms of AHA include: questioning your camera/workflow/existence, insecurity over a new format when you haven't even mastered your current format, the sneaking suspicion that the other guy has the jump on you, and the prodigious posting of flame bait.

Fortunately, things have calmed down a bit since the NAB hysteria. And some of the HVX posters have settled in as valuable community members, sharing their expertise and trying to work through the HD puzzle with the rest of us.

And for the drive-by trollers and the zealot/evangelists--I hope they find a happy home on usenet. :evil:

cause if i had a nickle for every time i just sat here shaking my head reading total poop from somebody who thinks they know alot more than they do. ..especially concerning the HVX200.

..oh yeah.. the nickles.. well id have alot of nickles.. and id trade them in for cash, and go buy a new .. uh.. i dont know.. a weed wacker or something. or some ice cream.

Good to hear. I just didn't want to take it off topic with a rant. I was just getting increasingly aggravated that things have taken a slight turn for the worse in a board I really enjoy.

I have gotten so much incredible information from people on here. To each his own, but when I started, I read almost the entire damn board before I jumped in. Not that I would expect the same from everyone joining, but I just don't get the juvenile horrifically uninformed bashings and character attacks.

There's a good rule to follow! If you don't absolutely know exactly what you are talking about...DON'T SAY ANYTHING! If I have to read one more post about how P2 cards are from satan, and satan will only let us record for 5 minutes, I'm going to kick the sh*t out of somebody!

i'm a newbie here for sure, but i've been amazed by the amount of knowledge here. i remember the first night i heard about the HVX and found this forum, I was in here for HOURS reading the "sneak peek" thread. I couldn't get enough.

my guess is the trolling will slow after some footage and official release date and all the current unknowns are answered. or at least the trolling will switch from those that just want to cause trouble to those that are sincerely pissed they bought a HDV camera and are trying to make themselves feel better :)

Reservoir, you are too funny! Braw and everyone else don't continue to pay them homage by trying to convince them. I personally hate the title of the Panasonic is Screwed thread. They are just baiting you. Don't answer, the thread will drift to the bottom.

Have faith it all works out and try not to let the blood pressure rise.

It's just hard to have intelligent informative conversations on here and then get baited. A lot of folks tend to give the benefit of the doubt and get suckered in to obvious bait. I guess that's what you get for trying to be fair.

I still can't believe I get suckered in even while it's happening. It becomes hard to shut my yap when someone just tosses out ridiculous claims or gives facts or figures that are just dead wrong.

Ahh, such is the power of the flame bait.
