Don Coufal, video lecture on the role of the boom operator

Stumbled across this and thought it was a very interesting lecture by one of the top boom ops for feature films. It focuses not primarily on the act of booming but the role of the boom operator as a part of the sound department, and what is needed on a broad general basis to get good quality film sound.
Hadn't seen it or even heard it mentioned anywhere before, so here it is. Hopefully it will also start an interesting discussion.

So basically he says the mixer needs to trust the boom op to be proactive, solving potential problems before they happen, not being reactive to problems. Took a long time to say such an important thing. He didn't touch on how a boom op actually gets to that position - because, I suspect, it just boils down to experience.
