Dolly Wheels

Any recommendations for skateboard wheels for a camera dolly? (brand, store, etc) I'm looking for cheap, and smooth... :) Not sure how well I'll be able to balance those out, but I'm gonna try...

Not sure what your definition of cheap is, but the best you can get are the skateboard wheels that are actually dedicated to skateboarders; the urethane wheels with bearings. Being a former skateboarder and skateboarding-cinematographer, my favorite wheels were always the larger ones (~65mm or larger) and my favorite bearings were Bones, which are ceramic bearings.

Depending on how many wheels you want/need, this could get expensive. Assuming you want around sixteen (you may actually be able to get away with eight because of size; one being in place of where every two would be), it could get up to anywhere from $80 ($20 sets) to $200 ($50 sets). This is not including bearings, but they are cheaper.

Get the hardest long board wheels you can find, like over 100 hard. I didn't and I'm going to have to replace mine. When weight is on the dolly you must keep it constantly moving (if it has soft wheels) or they will flatten and develop a bump you'll then have to spend 5 minutes rolling out.

Thanks for the responses, y'all. I'm seeing recomendations for large, hard wheels, with GOOD bearings - that seems to be the most important for getting quality motion, am I right?

right on the money. - vibration is your enemy, do your best to eliminated it with smooth track and wheels - butter bearings and you will be rockin
