Dolly Track

I have cine-dolly and I've been testing it out.

My track is made from 1" pvc that is connected with metal nipples. Each piece of track is 5' long but is far from perfect.

The track gets curved and bent out of shape. I have been considering metal tracks but how do you connect them smoothly?

Can people who have their home-made tracks post pictures?

Question: Why are people only going with one inch PVC? I've been thinking about making a DIY full platform dolly, but when I do I'll use at LEAST two inch PVC ... specifically so it'll hold its shape better, not to mention easily support the weight of a full dolly/sled.

My guess, and I'm no expert, but as long as it is at least Schedule 40 PVC it should support the weight ok. And Schedule 80 PVC pipe is as strong as metal pipe... but then, I wonder, would it be better to just use metal pipe? Any reason why people choose PVC over metal? Is PVC cheaper?

I'd imagine it's lighter at least, and easier to transport for that reason. I forgot about the "thickness" of the pipe vs. just the diameter.

I have some 1.25" PVC track since it's sturdy enough and it fits my wheels the best.

PVC is great for variable bends, instead of having a huge kit of different metal bends for each type of shot.

Finally, it's quite light to haul around.

Unless the walls of the pipe are proportionately thicker, the 2" will be easier to squish than the 1".

I'm not sure what the prices are on metal pipe, but PVC is dirt cheap. I got a 30' track run for my dolly for a grand total of $15.
