Dolly Track

What are some of the cheaper and portable dolly tracks available? Any suggestion is appreciated. I'm looking for a 10' to 15' track for putting a tripod on top.

Ive used most of the smaller ones, Indidolly, microdolly etc, and the only one thats any good is the Husky dolly....

What do you have negative to say about the Microdolly/track system? I've seen it in their store (and about to order it) and it looks very well made and is lightweight. It's perfect for what I'm doing (more field stuff) but it looks like it would do fine for most tripod/dolly work. I haven't read anything negative about it so I'm wondering why you say it's not any good?

a company in vancouver has the rubber ones in roll . he sells them on ebay and has some heavy duty tripod base wheel settup. check it out.

I used to have the Indie Snap! Flex Track system and I really liked it; regretted that I sold it actually. The whole thing (dolly and flex track) fits nicely into a duffle bag; it's fairly light weight and can be easily set up by one person. My only complaint is that the dolly itself could be better built, as some parts are plastics and worn out over time. But for the price (less than $500) it's a great system.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll check it out. I will either buy a cheap one or made it my self.

It seems Husky dollies are heavy, not so portable, and expensive. Maybe the one I found on the web is different then the one you're thinking of.

Okay, I was thinking of using two PVC pipes for the center piece in my dolly track system. I already have a 4" diameter pipe for the outside and 3" pipe for the inside so that I can have a telescope center piece for my EX1. The problem is, I don't seem to find a way to tighten the 3" pipe so that it will stay at the height that I want when telescoping. Does anyone know if there is an adapter for PVC pipe that goes from 4" to 3" diameter where I can tighten the 3" pipe that is inside the 4" pipe? If that is not possible, what are some ideas on how to make the height of the center piece adjustable?

Okay, I'm looking for something similar to the following piece:

I'm making something similar to the following picture:

I have been looking all over for this little piece so I can connect to the four legs but so far I have not found anything. Any help is much appreciated.

Huy,

how long did you have your Indie Snap dolly before the plastic parts wore out? Did they wear out to the point of not being functional or heading in that direction?

Thanks

The parts that "wore out" are the clamps that hold the tripod legs to the dolly. They tend to fall off the dolly leg during transport and occasionally during use because the plastic parts gets worn to the point where it no longer provides a firm grip on the leg. Would guess about 3 months before I start noticing problems. I think Todd should have use a much higher quality tripod dolly in his design (preferably one with all metal construction), but I guess that this would increase cost.

Cool, thanks for the good info as always. Did you ever decide what to replace your Cinevate dolly with?

I'll probably give the Varizoom Cinetrac a shot next month, but I'm concerned that there has been no user feedback or demo footages available. I'm going to contact Varizoom and ask if they have a return policy if I'm not satisfied with the product. I don't like shelling out $830 for something and then not have it worked well.

Cool, hope it works out. On their site it looks like its $1650 though...
