Can anyone reccommend? In a past life I used the heavy Matthews track with a rather large but smooth set of wheels (eight skateboard style wheels on each side). I know there are some lighter setups out there...
Are you on any kind of budget or looking to build one? Where would you primarily be using it? Studio/Interior or would you require Exterior set-ups as well? Are you looking for it to suppport a camera operator and camera or would it be simply a tripod mount?
I'm not worried about spending some money for the dolly/track. I would prefer it could hold the operator. I have read some about PVC track and it intrigued me.
My god that flex track looks AWESOME! Okay, I'm sold. I need it. I want it. I must have it.
$400 is resonable for 17 feet. I mean I can afford that right now. But $1000 for the spider dolly basic thing... that's outa my budget right now.
What do you guys think about using a homebuilt dolly platform (particle board and skateboard wheels) with the flex track until I can save up enough for the spider dolly? Will that work?
Also, any one used this? The track must be really heavy or something... how does it not shift and move around etc. there don't seem to be any supports or spacers required, right?
John, what diamater pvc pipe are you using? And how do you lay the track so that the pipe doesn't roll around? I don't quite get it.
Your footage looks incredible though. I think I'm going to have to build one of these. Can you walk us through how to put together the angle metal with the wheels attached to it? I'm going to go look at skateboard wheels tomorrow. There's only one size right?
morgan... let me know if you ever need to rent my Warren Dolly. It's built like a tank and it's portable. I've got 11 feet of track but you can also use 1/2" electrical conduit from any hardware store to make it longer.

I was fortunate enough to have my 'creative partner' build this. But, it works on 1 1/2" and 2" pvc pipe (thick diameter).
The wheels 'brace' the pipes. However, other ideas to be explored are using a thick 'blanket' to keep track from 'sliding/moving'.
If you 'Google it' you will tons of plans online on how to build one. Super easy and cheap (compartively speaking )
Let me know what you find, and if you have questions let me know!
I got these wheels to build mine and it the price was really good and the wheels seem to be perfect. The place did take forever to ship the wheels. But for $25 a set with bearings and free shipping its a really good deal. http://www.gearguys.com/945037.html
