Dolly track length advice

I've been looking at getting an indie dolly configuration and am trying to figure out how much additional track would give me the best working range. It comes with a total of 12ft. of track. I was thinking about two more 3ft. segments to give me a total of 18ft. which feels like it would handle about 90 percent of situations.

I know that there will always be exceptions, but I didn't want to build my own railroad either.

What has been your experience with total track length?

I've used as much as 60 feet to shoot a walking dialogue sequence. But I use PVC pipe...that's pretty cheap stuff
