Dolly Reveal Shot

It has been awhile since I have shot some more challenging dolly shots. I have been doing a lot of interviews, industrial videos, and corporate things the last few years. I have a job coming up that requires a dolly reveal. A close-up of a person looking at camera, shallow focus for 8 seconds or so and then pulls out to reveal that his family is sitting next to him. Total shot is about 20 seconds. Thinking a patio bench and family is on each side of him.

I have a few options. Normally I shoot with a Sony F3, but it could be done on a 4K camera as well. Any tips or recommendations on lens choices an techniques to pull it off smoothly?

this bit is the tricky bit. if you skip the shallow dof requirement on the cu, you will have a whole lot less headaches

I realize that but I see it done here and there. I am not afraid of the focus pull, more of the focal range and making the start of the move smooth. The shot could be more in focus but it depend upon the background, which is yet to be set.
