Doing everything wrong with Lowel Pro lights

I love those little lights and use those all the time but i end up doing everything wrong with those - hanging them upsdie down, to the side, sometimes even facing down... Anyone know how it might impact the longevity of the light?

I believe the vents in the Pro Light (and a number of other Lowel lights that specify how not to rig them) are designed to let heat out only one way. I mount my Pro Lights sideways a lot with no problems but I won't mount them upside down since a nasty experience a few years ago. On one particular shoot, one of my Pro Lights was rigged upside-down for the entire shoot. No problems in operation whatsoever but when we broke everything down, I noticed that part of the cable and mount on the underside of the fixture had melted away. I brought the light into Lowel in Brooklyn, waited about 20 minutes and they fixed it for free - no questions asked. No problem there but I definitely learned my lesson.

So yeah, I would avoid upside-down, but my experience is that sideways and just facing downward isn't a problem.

No hard knocks when they've been running hot for a while, the filament in the bulb will break. If you're too forceful with the spot/flood knob this can also happen. My experience has been with my two little Omnis. They're so old they don't even have switches...although on reflection I think they were just given to me with header cables lacking switches. Maybe I'll rectify that soon.
