Dogville

Did anyone see this?

I heard so many mixed things about it, mostly people either seemed to love it or hate it with nothing in the middle.

I saw it last night and thought it was fascinating. Very creative stuff.

LOVED IT! The ending was so good. It made up for the dissapointing ending and annoying tone of Dancer in the Dark, which was okay.

I was dissapointed by the Cinealta's performance, but it was cropped so it probably would have looked a lot better at 16:9 not cropped as opposed to 2.35:1 cropped.

Re: Dogville

I saw it on 35mm blow up on saturday night, btw. It probably looked fine on dvd, but the dynamic range and even some of the motion rendering did not look like film. It seemed low resolution, too.

Re: Dogville

I saw it last fall at the NYFF and still think it's a masterpiece. It held up on screen for me, even though it's HD and LVT, whose video work is rather sloppy at best.

Re: Dogville

Yeah, I think he prides himself on jump cuts and sloppy editing (which is cool; they actually work stylistically.)

The lighting was pretty bad, though, but how you have a key, fill, and back light for every character on the stage while having the characters move around is a pretty huge problem so most of the lighting issues can be forgiven (due to that and dynamic range not quite as good as film.) The way they did day and night was really cool, though.
