I am working on two differant DOF adapters. One yes still messing with the wax. (cant leave it alone til i figure it out) and the other is the spinning

I see example videos of both of these type of adapters and I cant seem to get the sharpness that they get with theirs.. Is there a trick or something that I should know.

With the Wax. and am using on one test lens. Beeswax. and then i also am testing Parafine waz on the other test lens

The spinning I am using a frosted cd (i scratched to frost)

Thanks

well the main trick to this is to make sure the spacing between your 35mm lens and gg is propper, take off all the extras, the anamophic lens, and what not, and just look with your nakid eye into thed back of the adapter, is the image ont he gg clear to your eye? if not try messing with the spacing untill it is. next issue, are you using an anamorphic lens or a couple of macros put together, get a good anamorphic if you dont have one. good luck.

clear

It looks clear looking through the 35mm lens.. and i have measured it and seem to have the right spot.. now here is what I am using

for the lens i am using
Minolta MD 50mm 1:17

For the macro I am using Somia 72mm macro

Thanks for the reply

well if the image looks clear of the gg, with your eye, then I think it must be the macro, try an anamophic lens, or try two macros together i've seen that done,

first though try it without the macro, I know you will not be able to zoom in enough so you'll have a large black circle, but see if you can get good focus on the screen.

Ok I know this isnt the time to ask this.. But from the instructions i have....

When i test for the clearness.. DO I have the 35mm lens zoomed all the way out?

I get a clear image with it all the way in.. So is that backwards.. If so. then I still need to shorten the distance more

it looks as ig the gg isn't spinning? the round ones have to spin, the wax one has to vibrate the ones that are static look like crap

the video is the one with the beeswax.. still putting the spinning one together.. still learning alot from here.

I've designed a static model that certainly doesn't look like any crap I've ever seen. It's far more rugged than any spinning/vibrating model out there. The glass is custom-ground @ 5 microns and delivers a fabulous image. It's not fragile like the sissy Canon focus screens found in most of the static adapters out there.

Oh, and it's pretty inexpensive also.

You can see it at http://hv20.com/showthread.php?t=15291

i wish i could afford a DOF adapter. but right now I dont see that happening. so im stuck learning. which isnt too bad. jsut gets frustrating..

Jennza, I can see you are fool of yourself..

I saw your futage; it is OK, but nothing to write home about..

Since it looks like Cinemek's G35 is back in the game, you can buy one, to see what kind of picture ( at least ), static adapter should provide..

5 micron screen.. ahaha..

:violent5:

the problem wiht static adapters like jennza's and you can see it in jennza's video is that you can see the gg its not moving so it looks like you have some kind of filter in front of all your shots, and while on static shots it may be acceptable, try a pan tilt or dolly shot when these strange things in front of the lens moves in relation to the lens.

trust me, get vib motor, they are cheap,

Which footage are you talking about? I have 3 vids up on vimeo. One shows artsy-fartys rack focus shots. The only grain you can ever visibly see in that video is in a highly blown-out region on the milk jug handle. No other grain is visible.

The 2nd video consists of shots that you wouldn't normally keep a 35mm adapter on for. No DOF to speak of that you wouldn't get with the stock HV30 lens. No grain. Do you see grain somewhere?

The 3rd video shows my adapter and how it handles horribly crummy lighting conditions. A 25W CF bulb only. I think it does great compared to the grain I've seen even on vibrating adapters in similar circumstances.

Do you disagree? If you do, I'd love to hear it. But don't just slam me. I'm just trying to be open and honest, and I'm certainly not full of myself. I think its a good product, and for the price, a great deal.

I've never said my adapter has the best optics out there. All I say is mine is robust as hell (not like the fragile Canon screens), shoots a nice image, my 5 micron GG doesn't show grain if you actually compose your shot and think about lighting and exposure, and its really cheap compared to everything else.

Vibrating adapters give you more room for sloppy shooting. Mine doesn't as much. I also don't have visible CA or barrel distortion visible in any of my videos.

Jenzza!

Making adapter is farr more than just greed the 5 micron GG..

I see grain on the low light futage, of course.. at f4.0 if not before..

Hard to tell because of compression on Vimeo - it hides grain also..

And you have static test; grain tend to show more on panning..

With time you will find out what is "bokeh rendition" and that bright screen isn't the absolute winner.. Actually grain is where the light spread and if you don't have that..you dont have bokeh rendition..

moving is, on the other hand, perfect solution for hiding grain ..

I am kind of tired of answering on that kind of "egotrips", like you can find on hv20 forum ( jehue garcia for example ) .. So, if I won't follow this discussion anymore, it is not because I wouldn't have more arguments..

:)

p.s. but I saw a beatifull DIY wax GG futage the other day.. gosh, it is something on that..
