dof adapter for a comedy!!

your not the first person to say that.... I also believe the letus is the better choice... how do you feel about the SGpro Blade?... its new but the test footage looks pretty good

Dang...just when I was migrating from Letus to RedRock, you're saying no, don't do it. Heard so many stories of poor Letus craftsmanship...but those may be about the earilier models. The Encore was looking pretty solid...but then again...

You don't need to pick an adapter based on what other people tell you to buy. Everyone's gonna back up the adapter they chose for the most part. They all perform pretty much the same nowadays, and good cinematography is good cinematography no matter what adapter you choose.

I've seen lots of amazing footage from cams on here that didn't even have an adapter on them. I'd just watch some footage from each adapter and choose one based on what you think looks the best. Because after all.. isn't that all that should matter? Not what adapter is "better" according to someone's opinion. If the footage from a certain adapter looks the best to you, then logically, shouldn't that be the one you choose?

there is no 'best' adapter

trust me, i spend a year studying everything i could about every adapter on the market and comparing them.

they all have their advantages and disadvanges.

ultimately, it comes down to which adapter produces the best image for YOU. that means doing your own research and comparing them yourself.

personally i chose the SGpro because it is the look i wanted.

Thanks for the honesty. I haven't use SGpro Blade. I only comment on something I've seen and used.

I believe that when redrock first design their unit, they got the right idea of the spinning GG. It's a great idea to correspond to faster shutter speed. However, there is a small problem w/ that design, its the huge motor. This was even after tweaking it w/ GG ii. Everyone recognize this, too, so its no news here.

I am sure someone will open up their adapter and stare at it for awhile to make some tweak instead of spending bunch of money on the upgrade. The one that they use generally comes out of CD-ROM tray motor. It's pretty huge and it compromises a lot of space bc you have to zoom in so far. Thus one of main reason for the GG revision.

Now the new encore(ref to a upgrade vid) may use gears to offset a motor and maybe to manipulate the speed, or use belt like letus(flagship model). I couldnt really tell bc the unit was enclosed.

read couple of thread on other forums and ppl say that the upgrade is better and sharper. obviously, the motor setup comes into play a lot, there is no doubt about it. in comparison, it looks like you gain about 3/16" to 1/4" of the vertical lit area of the GG.

hope somebody on here will get on w/ the revision. i cant even count how many revision they made on the same unit...LoL

best to worst or right to wrong is objective... i agree.

the way I rank any product in this manner or similar:

-workability(setting up, cleaning, aligning, ect...)
-does it work and how well?
-size/weight: bigger is not always better, no objection about that. however if you can make it very low-profile and it produce a great image, it has to be good.
-price: it has to be competitive bc its always come down to money.

if you want to be so technical or philosophical, then no, letus is not the best but it is one of the better units out there.

if you can tally the ranking w/ letus to any other popular brand such as Brevis, Redrock, and SGpro. I guaranteed you at least 75%(3/4) will favor letus.

I agree. However, the basis of choosing a product is to always research and do your own interpretation. It's a childish act to jump on bandwagons.

I am not confident to agree all perform pretty much the same but we all know everyone got the flip module to perform the same.

I agree, individual's profession is w/in their ability and should not defined by the tool he/she uses. However, it's well known that if a better tool can give he/she the edge, then by all means, the overall production can be inclined.

now, are we still on the subject of DoF adapter?
anyways, its a good idea that adapter comparison comes from an opinion bc who knows how much post-work you have to do get the an image to look good. Now we're back w/ tool vs. one's ability.

The post work shouldn't really come into the equation in my opinion, you can only make bad footage look "so" good by doing post work. As the old saying goes... "you can't polish a turd.." lol. (At least I think that's an old saying haha).

I think, no matter which adapter is used for a project, if the end result is the look you're going for, that footage you just watched proved that it is possible, and done with said adapter. If you see a bunch of other footage from a different adapter and don't like it, but a bunch of people tell you: "I think this adapter is the best" because it's the one they bought, does that mean you should go ahead and buy it? I don't think so. Go with you're gut when buying an adapter, if you've seen proven results that you like on it compared to the competition, why not buy it? Because a few people on a forum told you that they like something else better?

I don't want to get into an endless discussion on 35mm adapters here, so I'm just going to leave on; pick an adapter that best fits YOUR shooting style (ie. weight, light consumption, etc.), comfort level (ease of use, setup), and first, and foremost... pick one that YOU think has produced the nicest looking footage. In the end, we all want to have the nicest looking footage possible, so why not use the tools along the way that will help us get there.

Pat,

Have you shot w/ anything besides the M2/microX?

have you not read what i posted? check #26, first line.

but please don't try to belittle me just bc of my SN or my join date.

I'm not trying to belittle anyone on here. And yes the M2 is the only 35mm adapter I've shot with. I chose to buy it because I thought out of all the footage I saw from different adapters, it had the nicest look to it. Not to mention the customer support, and upgradability that RR products have.

I'm just expressing my opinion of how someone should choose the adapter they buy. For a lot of people (including myself) it's a fairly hefty investment, and I don't like to see people going on here and just buying something because it's what other people tell them to buy. A lot of people will just say "Buy this" or "Buy that", or "This is the best" and "This sucks" and so on.

I've read your posts on here and about the first line in ur comment 26, I'm not sure what you meant by "have you not read what i posted?" If you were implying that I comment on something I haven't used, you'd be mistaken. I haven't told anyone anything about a product I haven't tried. Actually, I haven't encouraged anyone to buy any particular adapter at all. All I've tried to do was explain the importance of buying the adapter that YOU think is the best for yourself.

well you can have your opinions and thats fine.. but you are assuming that I'm going to run out there and just buy anything and it is a little bit of an insult... I consider this talking to people who at one point were in the same spot as me.. and I was just looking for some feedback... it would be nice to provide usefull information instead of trying to teach a lesson.
