Does VRAM help video/HD

I have a choice between an iMac with 128 MB of VRAM vs an iMac with 256 MB of VRAM.

The problem is that I have a rebate of $150 for the 128 MB iMac. So the additional VRAM would end up costing me $225 (giving up the rebate plus paying $75 for the upgrade).

Is it worth it? I'm doing lots of video and want to start doing some HDV/HVX stuff. I do NOT play any games. Would I really gain anything from the extra VRAM that is worth the considerable upgrade cost?

Is it just more VRAM on the same graphics card, or is it more RAM on a better card? That'll make a big difference, so it would help to know some more detials.

It's more RAM on the same card, the ATI Radeon X1600 that comes on all Intel iMacs. The ONLY difference between the two systems is 128 vs 256 MB of RAM on the graphics card, for $225.

Well, for FCP you'll probably won't notice a huge difference, but for programs like AE or Motion, you'll definately benefit from the more VRAM. The more the merrier is always good, but if you're getting into stuff that is heavily graphics dependant I wouldn't worry about it too much, take the $225 and get the crossgrade for the ProApps, or put it towards some external hard drive space.
