Does this slow render make sense?

Hello all,

I have a 2.8ghz dual core Pentium running Vegas 5. I'm using 720 24p HDV footage from the cineform codec, which works very well by the way. I'm rendering out from the HD 24p timeline to an MPEG 2 DVDA, DV file. So, I'm downconverting to SD.
It's taking about 2.5 hours to render the 20 minute video. No transitions or color correcting. Seems REALLY long. When I just go DV to DV Mpeg2, I just smoke through it in no time. Does downconverting tke this long? SHould I maybe make use a different target drive from my source drive?
Thanks everyone.

Kelly

Down converting can take that long, yes. You're converting an HD mpeg to an SD mpeg, and that's not a fast process like DV to MPEG is.
