We're looking at doing a live event and have it broadcast over the Internet. There's some outstanding software out there called boinxtv for doing that bit, but I have a ? re: audio.

I'd like to have a "box" that accepts several audio inputs and has one "combined" output to plug into the Mac. I can only seem to have one audio source in, and I'd like to have a couple wireless mics, and possible even the audio out of an additional PC to take live calls etc.

Any advice?

thanks in advance.

The device you are describing is called "mixer".

The type of mixer that will suit your needs will depend on the number and type of audio inputs needed, as well as whether it will can be mains-powered or must be entirely portable.

Take a look at Mackie's VLZ3 series of mixers: http://www.mackie.com/products/mixers/index.html

They're reasonably-priced and well-built. Furthermore, Mackie products are pretty easy to find for-rent at pro-audio and music production rental places.

I don't want to discourage you or come off dismissive or whatever, but I really think you should be hiring someone to deal with your audio for this show. If you've got to ask if there's such a device as a mixer, you almost certainly don't currently have the skills/experience to use one effectively to mix a live event (not saying you can't learn, but you're probably already dealing with a lot to put on your show and adding learning audio and interfacing properly with the various sources to avoid, getting wireless that doesn't suck (if you even really need wireless, if it's just to look cool, you're doing it wrong), dealing with whatever horrible things the room does to your sound, etc. Someone needs to be at the board at all times, there is no 'set it and forget it'.

Again, I'm not saying you can't learn, and I swear I'm not trying to be a downer, but you need to decide if its something you personally want to add to your plate for this event.

If you decide you do want to do it, put the time in to learn how to do things right. Read, ask questions here or over at Gear Slutz (Live and production sound are pretty different beasts, and you're kind of combining both by doing broadcast of a live show.)
