Does this cracka look like George Lucas?

With your warning/NOTE, I thought it was going to be one of those Rich Lee zombies jumpint out at us. I guess, if you really look for it, he resembles George Lucas, but I'd say George Michael before that.

Dude Thicke rules!! In that kinda guilty pleasure kinda gay way I guess. (Y'know his Dad is Alan Thicke!) But Lucas? I guess with some gray. I had a professor in college that looked exactly like George. Least I thought so....

Mr. George Lucas

I actually met George Lucas. I was at a mall here one Saturday, just walking along when right there before me, I see the creator of Star Wars.

No one seemed to notice at all, but I knew, I just knew that was George Lucas. He's the kind of celebrity whom only filmmakers, wannabe filmmakers, and geeks would recognize. He was wearing white sneakers and a long-sleeved blue denim shirt, tucked into his jeans. In all honesty, he was so unassuming, and short, that I second-guessed myself. In fact, I began to have serious doubts that this gray haired, bearded man could really be the man whose net worth is 3 billion dollars.

So I begin to stalk him around the mall. I had to, this doesn't happen often where I live, and because I just had to find out if this was the man who contributed so much to my and everyone else's childhood. I begin shadowing Darth Vader, scrutinizing him, each step of mine carrying me from doubt to conviction and back again: Is that really Lucas? That is Lucas...but I thought he'd be taller...

I guess George knows he isn't too recognizable to the lay person, and I wasn't making any attempts anymore to hide the fact that I was following him, so he begins to sense a disturbance in the Force. He knows he's being pursued. And I realize this is probably the worst thing to do since in his mind this can mean only a few things:

1) I hope this person doesn't complain to me about Jar Jar
2) I hope this person doesn't expect me to cast him in the next Star Wars, or
3) How do I get rid of this bozo?

So I have to make a move, now or never (you can't just see Mr. Lucas and not say something afterall, even if it is to say that the original trilogy was superior or something, his feelings be damned).

I close the distance, walk right up to him, and ask:

"Hi, are you, uh, George Lucas?" (in hindsight, I think this was so ingeniously...bad)

His back is still turned to me although he slows, and, bracing for the worst, turns around to face me. He nods with lips pursed together; he's knows he's caught, but by what kind of fan? Comic book convention geek? Star Wars aficionado, I-know-more-than-Lucas-does-about Star Wars dork?

"I just wanted to say hello and meet you"

I smile and extend my hand to accept his. I am taken back by how limp and sweaty and regular his hand is. Vader is...mortal.

I realize this is uncomfortable for the reclusive billionaire genius. He is already turning away to move on to Tower Records. I let him go, silently kicking myself.

Maybe I should have said something else or came off more friendly or... He is rapidly moving away. I don't know why, but I thought he would like to have chatted, you know, real quick and friendly. I wasn't expecting him to be so stand-offish but then again how many times must he do this? I too was caught off guard by his reluctance with celebrity.

However, you meet Lucas how many times at the local mall?

I say **** it, I go after the guy again. It's not everyday you run into Yoda's master.

This time I charge right up to him - he's already got dozens of DVDs in his hands in the Tower Records aisle - and I straight out ask him about filmmaking and film school, and film. He sees immediately that I am not a freak. He begins to talk with me. I've worn him down!

Yet just as he is getting to some of the best information I'll ever receive in my life, from one of the greatest independent filmmakers of all time, my nerve runs out of steam. In my attempt to thank him, I cut him off. I thank George Lucas and leave.

Later, I wonder if he didn't somehow use a Jedi trick on me.

In any case, the moral of the story is this. These filmmakers we admire, they're regular people. That is the last time I will feel nervous. Until I meet Spielberg that is.

Hehe.. I was only up there to work on the tail of Ep2... it was a cool time though,
the place is a real trip.

The worst part is I work in one of the neighboring cities...It is well within driving distance, I just don't have the exact location. Of course, even if I did all I would get to see would be the entrance gate. I'm sure the line, "Hello Mrs Lucas...can George come out and play?" wouldn't work

Looking back now, it is mostly the facial hair and the Doo...

It's amazing how much weight one will put on these items...
