does the barrel size matter?

Hi, i watched this 4 part video tutorial online for people building a DIY 35mm vibrating adapter for an HV30, I have an HMC150. What will the difference be if i use more step down rings to fit it? Will it just add more black border around the image? Am i better off just building one for the DVX/HMC?

If you have a 150... just get the real deal (Red Rock M2, Letus, SGPro, etc...).
