I would guess the same. We had a 4073a for FX recording and it was fantastic, very quiet, very sensitive, and great bass response for a shotgun. The last one might be a drawback for production? but I suspect the roll off would take care of any issues.
Picked up a used 4073a from LSC online for 199$ a few years ago, maybe five years ago , consignment. They sold a ton to the Atlanta Olympics and the networks sold them off right after olympics flooding the market. Haven't seen any cheap 4053 in a very long time but rarely look these days. As far as sound blankets disappearing on set maybe someone will start making hot pink or fuscia. I bet those would be get nicked so quick.
I originally bought a (mint condition) 4053a on eBay for $250usd, but that was about 10 yrs ago... have not seen many since. I also bought one of the 'Olympic' mics (AT 4071 long shotgun). Prior to that, I had a 815T, and like the 4071 was rarely used. (I used the 4071 once in 2013).
The 4073A shows up quite often, I bought mine a few months back for well $200. I have been keeping a eye out for a 4053A, but they seem to be like hen's teeth, you don't find them too often.
Yah, Noiz, the 4073A has a 150hz roll off switch, and it does need that to deal with wind noise, even in a blimp.
The sensitivity takes some getting use to. If you don't want to pick up cars going by a 1/2 mile off you really have to turn down your gain. At first I did not understand that until I compared what I was hearing to what I was recording, talk about a stealth microphone.
