Does such a thing exist- wireless headphones

Obviously I realize there are wireless headphones... be around for a long time, but what I am wondering is if there is a type of wireless headphone that does not require the base or docking station... in other words, you plug something into the earphone jack of your camera that shoots a signal to the headphones on your head...

Many, Many options. Very few of them would be considered good enough for critical listening and they would be very expensive. What is your reason for wanting this? What type of camera? What distance is required? It will never be as good as wired but it is an option.

I know of two solutions for critical listening (not good enough for mixing but good enough for listening. The first solution is Comtek. These are used to feed the director, producer, script superviser and used primarily just to hear the set sound for lines. This is typically fed from the production mixer. Comtek is a well know manufacturer of this equipment. Here's their link: http://www.comtek.com/film.html

The other solution is in live performance and called wireless in-ear monitors. To get quality in this arena expect to spend upwards of $1,000/mix channel with one reciever. You can add multiple receivers to get the same mix. THis price does not include the in-ear monitor itself.

Comtek is less expensive. Trew audio has a couple of rigs on consignment. One transmitter and 3 recievers for $400.00.

Comtek is essentially the same technology used for assisted listening. House of worships often employ assisted listening systems and you may find suppliers in that arena.

Quality-wise, the live performance systems offer the best fidelity, based on the in-ear monitors used. I personally mix and boom using the m-audio IE-30 in-ears which run about $300 and have them plugged directly into my mixer. The isolation is about 26db and with dual drivers, the fidelity is incredible.

Note that none of these solutions are appropriate for camera hops.

thanks for this guys... we are basically starting a 3 camera shoot on sunday mornings at church... i'd like each camera to have their own set to hear the service... i mentioned in ear monitors to the financial director and it was quickly shot down...

Typically, in a live production, the camera operators are fed cueing direction via headset from the director or stage manager. They are not fed a mix of the production. I mean, if the camera ops are shooting the service, can't they already hear the service without anything on their ears?
