Does Philip Bloom come here anymore?

jacotte why you made this thread if youre not accepting any answers different than yours,i dont see the point and it will end up in discussion.
Decision is yours ,ive seen some bad RED ONE 4K non alias footage and great very SD DVX100 + adapter footage ,you can shoot with DSLR's.
If you want to see some moire rent yourself mission impossible 3 DVD and look at the big wall when guys are doing fake arguing in front of "broken" car ,this will terrify You cause this was shot on film, you will see more of this stuff in motion pictures shot on film from now on if you will look for it.
Learn to use your cam,to hide its weak points ,there is no battle here between cameras, at the end its everything up to DP how footage will look like.
Listen if DSLR's would have shape of video camera then nobody would dare to say they arent video cameras ,do you believe that ? I really do and im 100000% sure that nobody would dare to say that.

Because his purpose is to ask redundant, rhetorical questions and then argue with the respondents. Read his other threads. If I'm not mistaken this is his 3d incarnation here, originally as jujufactory and then by another name.

That's the shortcoming of boards that do not require "real names." People can just open a new account and continue the behavior that got them banned in the first place.

wow, dangerous ideas. +1

So bottom line, if I undertstand correctly, the problem with the DSLR video image is:

(1) Limited dynamic range
(2) Lower resolution
(3) Less rectangular aspect ratio
(4) Artifacts and rolling shutter

The strong point is:

(1) More sensitive to light
(2) No ground glass grain
(3) Sharper image

Am I missing anything?

Well, yes, plus if you're comparing to a video camera you'd also want to throw in the lack of exposure tools like zebras or a spotmeter, no internal ND filters, no smooth zooming or power zoom, and (depending on the DSLR) limited recording times (12 minutes max on the Canons).

It is limited to recording only up to 4GB at a time. It stops recording when it reaches that file size, and that happens at about 12 minutes.

Sorry, I try to come here as often as possible. But it's been crazy busy past few months.

OMG! Phillip! Good to see you man. Saw your HM100 test. It was kick ass! You looked way cool by the way. This is so funny. All this back and forth over digital SLRs and I'm considering a HG10.

You mean the DSLR can't do more than 12 minute takes. That's not a problem as 12 minute takes are more than rare and almost never necessary.

To me the reduced dynamic range which blows everything into whites quickly appears to be the biggest problem with DSLR. I also hope to know what DSRL means. :) I was never good with short hand such as: IMO, DSLR, CG, etc. What does DSLR stand for?

A digital single-lens reflex camera (digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera that uses a mechanical mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens to an optical viewfinder on the back of the camera.
