Does Mini DV Tape stock matter??

I'm shooting documentary interviews with a Canon XL-1 and in shopping for Mini DV tape stock I see a variety of tape grades (and prices). I'm especially wondering about the difference between DV stock and DVCAM stock. How much does high grade or low grade tape matter with Mini DV? Do the different tape grades handle the time code signal differently? I'd appreciate getting some insight on this. Thanks.

There is a lot of info on this forum about tapes, but what it basicly comes down to is that once you choose one grade or brand of tape, stick with it, and you will want a dry lube on you tapes, wet lube isn't good for your camera heads. Also, only use a tape only once and rewind it with a cheap consumer cam instead of with your camera, because rewinding and capturing also wears your heads.
If I forgot something, there'll be someone to fill me in...
Good luck,

Fredric

BTW This is in the wrong section, this has nothing to do with Cinematography

Fredric -

Thanks for the information. Re posting my question in the Cinematography section, where is there info on tape stock on this forum? I wasn't able to find it and thought that the Cinematographers might have some good info.

I guess this is a more Technical related question, maybe you could, or a moderator, move it to the Technical section of the DVX forum section, I know you dont have a DVX, but it all works the same way...
On the searching, just search for words related to your question and you'll be surprised what you can find...
