does match media settings work in vegas 10?

I seem to be having an issue using the match media settings project properties feature in Vegas Pro 10. I have a big job to convert hundreds of dvd's to download versions, so I rip them as raw untouched mpeg2 files to hdd, then drop them into Vegas to edit. I use the "match media settings" option for the project settings and render.

The problem is that I think match media settings is sometimes determining the settings wrong. For example, I have two particular dvd's which it says are both 720x480 29.97i. When I render them, on one of them the only way to get a proper looking image is to have de-interlacing set to none, if I use blend the image looks blurry and if I use interpolate then the image looks very blocky and low resolution. On the other dvd if I have de-interlacing set to none then on the render you can clearly see the interlacing in the video which looks bad, it only looks correct if I set de-interlace to interpolate.

If both of these dvd's are 29.97i as Vegas thinks they both are, then why am I getting these different results with the de-interlace settings? I'd have though setting de-interlace to interpolate for both dvd's would have been the way to go since Vegas says they are both interlaced, but on one of them the result render looks very low res and unacceptable. Ideas?
