The reason I'm asking saw a list of credits for the film Flying Tiger

In the credit's section it had this listed

Just thought of the SDX900

If you look at the trailer for this film.  It looks great, that is the look of it.  I thought the trailer could have been cut better.  But the look of it is wonderful.

If this is a DVX, wow.  Since it's shot in Missouri they might have a screening of the film at the opening of this new theatre that'll show more independent stuff this month or next.

Re: Does Leica Make HD Lens?

looks like they used a DVX for the film. Check out the behind the scenes photos.

Re: Does Leica Make HD Lens?

if you look at the "full credits" after cinematography it shows that there was an "A" camera 1st assistant, "A" camera 2nd assistant and a "Loader" meaning that this was a film job.

double check. it might have said "panaVISION" camera with leica lenses. Leica does make film lenses. Although i've only seen them with photosonic high-speed cameras.

plz let me know.

Re: Does Leica Make HD Lens?

I wonder what all of those DVX's were doing there in the photos then? That is odd that they mentioned a "loader". Maybe the DVX was a b roll camera? maybe he was a "tape" loader, what a sucky job. "ok, here is your job. Every hour or so, you need to take this tape out, and then replace it with a new one. Now make sure that you don't put it in backwards."
the other strange thing is if you look at the movie stills, they have the telltale sign of the DVX100 (no A) with the black bar on the right hand side.
hmmm I don't know whats going on here.

In my first post you see

This is what I took off the credits page.

Scharky, thanks.  Never thought about calling a person a loader on a video shoot.

But if you want to fool people it'd be a great way, because most of us think of that job having to do with a film shoot.  If the production values look good they'll think you shot on film.

If they see your credits off the web along with the trailer they'll think its film.

Buyers want film.

Which brings up a funny story.  Phil, a DP I know was working on the fifth feature for these two brothers (The Hillenbrands) that I also know, they wanted to mix DVX and HD.  The distributor said no way.

When they did a test and blew it up to film and showed it to the same distributor.  The disturbutor said see I told you it'd look better shooting film.

Can't remember that old film (not Tron) where people get caught in a video game world. This film has the same story idea.

They shot the game world with the DVX and the real world stuff with HD according to Phil.  Have to go to IMDB and get the name of the film.

Just looked up the name of the film its GAME BOX 1.0

Re: Does Leica Make HD Lens?

As a point of clarification, Van Diemen takes Leica 35mm still lenses and remounts them for use on motion picture cameras. The lens on the Pansonic DVX100/100A is branded Leica. The two possibilities would seem that they used Panasonic DVX's and chose to mention the non-removeable lens separately (strange but the likely explanation) or they shot with a Mini35 type device and used Leica lenses on it -either remounted as per Van Diemen or in some other form.

To my knowledge, Leica does not manufacture any stand alone lenses for video applications other than the Leica branded lenses that are on Panasonic products.

Re: Does Leica Make HD Lens?

Thanks, Bill.

They could have used a Varicam or SDX and then used one of the Leica still lenses that were converted for motion picture camera to shoot the film.

Just thinking I should have named this thread Does Leica Make HD Lens or was this shot with a DVX?

Since the DVX has a Leica lens I was trying to figure out if the film was shot with  the DVX.

If they screen the film here I find out then.

Re: Does Leica Make HD Lens?

For both mechanical and optical reasons, 35mm SLR lenses cannot be mounted directly onto 2/3" 3 chip video cameras. They would still need to use a Mini35 type device or a relay system of some sort.

Let us know what you find out, but in all likelyhood it was shot using DVX's.

Re: Does Leica Make HD Lens?

I went to the web site for "Flying Tiger" and watched all 3 clips they have posted. It looks like it may in fact be from a DVX100 but it has to be some of the best stuff I've ever seen from this camera. There is quite a bit of mention of the production utilizing "new technologies" to make the film on a limited budget. If you go to the production stills you can definetely make out a DVX100. It would be great to hear from the filmakers of "Flying Tigers" to find out exactly what they used. Anybody want to try to make contact?

Re: Does Leica Make HD Lens?

My partner's been using "film" terms for crew members since we started shooting in 2000, aqll in his effort to make things seem bigger than they are. He thinks it brings you money from investors and potential clients. You know, "looks are half the battle." It reminds me of all the Canonm snobbery we faced when shooting with our V2K. Idiots would swear that if we didn't have the XL1 we didn't know anything. Those were the clients we "zero edited" to death. So yeah his "loader" may be "the guy who puts in the new tape." Loader is more official sounding AND has an economy of words. ;-). Ciao.
