Does Anyone Know Maya?

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I posted it here...where there is the most traffic....

I have a 3D car model from MAYA 7 that I need to bring into MAYA 5. I know that it can be done, just not sure how. If anybody knows how to help me do this...it will be much appreciated. Right now, I keep getting this error message: "Errors have occurred while reading this scene that may result in data loss. Please check the Script Editor for details". And then when I click "OK" nothing happens. I know I need to change SOMEthing. I know its relatively easy, but I still don't know how to do it.

Anyone? Please?

Maya scenes aren't very friendly when it comes to backwards compatibility. I called Alias to confirm this once. I would suggest exporting the car as an object (.obj), then importing that into Maya 5. That should get you there.

Thanks for responding. It was actually explained by a professor at school; he swears it was quite easy and involved changing a digit or two on the script before I brought it in. However, I'm having difficulty following his advice.

Okay gang...for those of you who might ever come across this problem...

You need to open up NOTEPAD...then import the MAYA file script....then wherever it says MAYA 7.0, change it to MAYA 5.0. You should only have to do this in the first line or two. Then SAVE AS and rename the file. Then, when you bring it into Maya it should open. Holy relief.

I was dying here...
