Does anyone have experience in cutting glass mattebox filters?

I inherited a few 6x6 filters I would like to reduce so that they fit a 4x5.65 or 4x5 filter tray. Should I bring them to a glazier or I can take the risk and cut them myself with a diamond tool (assuming I don't need the edges to be polished)?

Um. You should try and trade those with people who are looking to upgrade the 4x5s. You might be able to score a few extras in the process.

I wouldn't try to cut it with a diamond tool.

That wont work. Camera filters are tempered, and if you try and cut tempered glass, they shatter into thousands (and im not exagirating) of tiny little glass pieces. The edges on tempered glass needs to be ground back and protected, or even a simple tap with a screw driver to the edge will cause it to shatter.

As soon as you touch a filter with anything sharp it will turn into a pile of little glass pieces....

Go for a trade. I agree with hoarp001 you cannot cut tempered glass. Glaziers can't cut tempered glass, it's designed to shatter just like a windsheild for safety.
