Does anybody insure their XL2/DVX's

Hi there,

Since I bought my XL2, I have been shopping for insurance. When you spend so much money on a camera, you tend to want to insure it.

Nobody wants to cover my camera unless I also purchase public liability insurance. There doesn't seem to be any insurance which simply covers my camera for $6000.

Anybody else have this problem?

I have all of my A/V gear insured with an endorsement on my Homeowner's policy. I am, however, just an individual and not claiming any of this equipment for business use, otherwise I'd have to take out a seperate business policy to have the gear covered.

Not sure what your situation is, so this post might not be any help at all. ;D

Yeah that's what I would like to do, put it on my contents insurance.

However, if I was to generate any form of income with it, the insurance would be void.

Do you make any money from your gear?

Not currently. I'm working on an independent feature right now, and in my downtime I keep getting calls from relatives saying "Can you video my wedding." You'd think I'd eventually run out of relatives who are single. :-/ So those are non-paying gigs. If I ever do make money with my gear then I'll take out a commercial business insurance policy or something like that. My agent told me about it for future reference, but since it didn't apply right now I just smiled and kind of glazed over and didn't really listen. ;D
