I do not see how you would be able to do it this way because you need the plug in , in the sytem where the media files are stored.

The OMF exporter looks at your timeline ( which is only references to your media files). It then exports those media files (or parts of) to a new file that includes the Audio track and effect information so it can be opend in another DAW such as ProTools.

It does this very well I might add.

How many audio tracks do you have in the timeline ?

I have 2 dialogue, and 1 music track.... at any given time, no more than 4 tracks total.
