I use these lavaliers. I want to get windscreens for the mic. I see on the B&H website that the metal ones are more expensive than foam ones. Do they work that much better?I dont mind spending more if it's worth it. But i have no sense if it is....
What's the application? I have used the me-2 quite a bit for narrative work, placing it under clothing and use it almost exclusively without any wind protection at all.
So you don't mind the mic being visible? I'm going to go out on a lmb here and guess that the metal wind protection is going to deliver better results as it acts much like a miniature blimp, providing a dampened airspace between the mic element and the wind. I think I'll do some tests this weekend to see for myself. I have both foam and metal for my me-2.
I haven't used lavs too much in strong breeze, but I did do one equipment demo that was in what seemed like a hurricane (steady 15kt + gusts) The lav was out in the open on the talents shirt since hiding wasn't needed. I clipped the finger tip off of a knit wool glove and secured that around the lav with a mini tie-rap. Under the circumstances, it worked better than expected. I picked this trick out of one of the Jay Rose books. Cheap and effective.
