does 8ft kessler crane and hvx need monitor?

you will need a monitor. 8' is too far to be looking at the lcd on the camera. that monitor you suggested is not really that good for focusing because its resoluiton is not really much higher than the one on the camera. but it will be good for framing.
If you are doing a crane shot and you think you will have to change focus then you will aslo need a remote to control the camera, and a better monitor to judge focus as you move the crane.
The alternative (which I don't suggest) is doing a shot with the crane that doesn't require focus, then you can get way with a cheap monitor. (at that point i would't get the varizoom.) I'd look for something cheaper.
What I mean by not needing focusing is having the lense as wide angle as it can. then I can't remember what the depth of field is, but you might be able to get for example: everything between 12' to 24' in focus. so if your crane move is not more than that, you could possibly not have to change focus.

you could get that monitor for framing, and also run a cable to an external monitor like a Dell or Gateway with component inputs which will alow you to focus and the director/dp could watch to check lighting and so on. Also be able to see the playback nicely and quickly. And the Varizoom and a 22" Gateway will be cheaper combined than a Marshall monitor alone.
