Documentary TAX question.

Hi
I have a big project from an AD agency, and being an independent contractor, I will be getting taxed 15% for this job, which will be a hefty sum. The documentary I am producing will be used for educational purposes and not sold. I am unclear if I am allowed to charge sales tax on productions like this. I live in Alameda County, California which has a 9.75% sales tax. Can anyone give me info on this? Thanks
 
What are you selling them? If you're producing it directly for them sales tax won't apply, since services are generally exempt. If you're not in a work for hire situation and the actual physical deliverable is being purchased, then sales tax would apply.
