Do you use SORD?

Netflix got 14 Emmy nominations this year, 9 for House of Cards its net only self produced content. Netflix wasn't the very first to adopt SORD, (Stream Only Release and Distribution), but its a definate signal of whats upon us now.

Apple TV, ROKU sprang up and only a couple of weeks ago Google released Chromecast. The world of streaming is rolling right along. Two of the HDC projects I'm working on at the moment have been examined for SORD.

Are you doing any projects at the moment which be utilizing SORD?

Marketing is most certainly the hardest part. I think it always has been but that realization really hasn't 'hit home' with the lo/no/DIY crowd until the distribution hurdle lowered significantly yet we still weren't able to get people to watch our films.

"Looking for Lenny", the doc in my sig, is on Amazon streaming, Hulu, Netflix, iTunes, Xbox Live, VUDU, PlayStation Network, YouTube (as a rental), etc., but it hasn't gotten a lot of views. We built it, but not very many people came. Which isn't surprising since these days it's so much easier to get a project in the can and out via some sort of distribution (even if it's just YouTube or Vimeo). There's only so much time in the day and audiences are flooded with more and more content by the second. With loudly, and repeatedly, yelling out that your project exists it will most likely never be found.
