I wouldn't copy from drive A to B and C.... what if an error occured while copying to A and you didn't notice?

If possible, I would always copy from the recording media to A, B and C. If the time allows of course.

Man, you're like totally paranoid! ;-)

The trick is to check everything... That may be a litte easier for me since at the end of the day I usually have 2-3 clips (albeit big ones). And the SATA transfer is a lot faster… but I like your point!

Actually, I've heard the same thing that Simon said from Union DIT's: you should copy from the original source out to multiple drives, not from copied drives, for the safest replication.

This thread still going?!

If you're on Windows and doing a lot of copying, you might want to take a look at the utility Teracopy. It's got CRC error checking and reporting. You can pause and resume copying, and can add files to an existing copy queue or create multiple queues to process one after another. It also happens to be a lot faster than Windows built in copying.

Thanks! I'll look into that.

I gotta say I'm amazed at how so many here at the forum thinks an amazing feature film can be made for 10K if only someone writes the perfect script and gets A-grade actors and crew members to work for free, but when mr_goodbomb tells you in the other thread he tried to make a movie for that price tag he gets all sorts of **** from you because he didn't pay the guy.

What's wrong with this picture?

Holy crap. I don't think you were supposed to point that out!

Edit: Oh, darn. Maybe I wasn't supposed to point out that what you pointed out maybe shouldn't have been pointed out. Um.....

Since everyone with a point of view has made their point, I wonder what the point of keeping this thread open is....

I don't think he got lot's of sh*t for not paying the guy. He got it for not making sure his money was well spent, and blaming someone else for what was clearly his mistake, and quite preventable. It applies here.. if you're making a feature film for under 10K, don't throw $350 away, not supervise essential aspects of the film, and let any doofus take over any part of the filmmaking process, unsupervised, because he "wants to". Making an amazing film for an ultralow budget demands maximum efficiency; it's not an excuse for ultimate lazy sloppiness.

People are misanthropic on the internet and this site sometimes lacks effective moderation?

every post comes with a little

that you can use to report a post for the mods to review. also, I think it's pretty well accepted that there is no such thing as effective moderation in practice. there's either overmoderation or undermoderation and it all depends on what side of a mod's decision you land on that day. :)

Sorry for the allusion, but 'meta commentary' isn't my thing (I hate that term, BTW, 'meta'). I only meant that there was a warning in that thread to tone down the growing and mostly unprovoked rhetoric, but it was ignored. But I guess the 'Cafe' here is mostly the 'Wild West' of the site. That's fine; I should just learn to keep my disgust-o-meter in check, or get a punching bag.

Anyone know if there's a thread that lists the longest threads? Cause this thread has to be a thread listed on that thread.... No?

If anything, I think this thread growing to this size points to the practicality of moderator started open topic threads on other forums. Just a random thread to shoot the &$%* in that never dies. You can discuss things like movies or whatever else in a much more laid-back manner without starting a plethora of threads that disappear.

Lets start a new thread.

Do you think it's possible to build an amazing DIY Slider you could use to make Deuce of Spades II for under $10,000?

"Do you think it's possible to build an amazing DIY Slider you could use to make Deuce of Spades II for under $10,000, AND CAN I LIGHT IT ALL WITH HOME DEPOT WORK LIGHTS"...... Now that's a thread!

As per the discussion of acting in a micro budget feature, I think Christopher Nolan's Following is a great example. It's cast with all amateur actors who give excellent performances, shot with a budget of about $6,500. According to the commentary, they rehearsed for 6 months because they couldn't afford to shoot much film. But all that aside, I think Nolan utilized his resources brilliantly. Instead of having a larger cast with maybe a few good actors and a bunch of mediocre actors, he used just the three best actors he had access to. And look at Clerks, by contrast. I love Clerks, but all the smaller roles are pretty poorly-acted. The two leads, Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson playing Dante and Randall, are both really excellent in their parts, and they carry the movie well. But the scenes with the girlfriend, and all the random bit parts are less watchable. But I could watch all the strictly Dante and Randall scenes over and over, because the script and their performances combined are very funny and entertaining.
