Here in Central America, at least in Nicaragua, it's common practice to name your camera.
I know, it sounds silly but it's true. I think part of the reason is because to buy a camera costs some money to own and maintain, especially here, but the close relationship does begin to become more than a normal "man and machine" type of thing.
When I first moved here in '96, the local guys kidded me about not having a name for my Betacam, then they found out for security reasons I keep the camera in my bedroom at home close by my bed...just like a child. They dubbed it (her) La Niña for little girl. Now with my DVX100a they insist the newest member to the family has a name and decided, keeping with the theme of things, to call her La Nieta...which is granddaughter in Spanish.
Just curious, anyone else out there have a name they carry in their hearts when talking about their own "loved one"?
Of course...there are times I use other names for my cameras when they aren't "behaving".
