Do you have light loss with 35mm adapters all the time?

I've been reading throughout the forums that with ALL 35mm adapters, you lose light.

I just started looking at the screen grabs of the HVX and the picture looked awesome with the 35mm adapters. I was wondering, if you use 35mm adapters on the HVX...

...do you lose light also? Or because it's HD, there are NO light issues.

Depending on this answer, I might change my mind and get the HVX.

wont make a difference. its not the DVX that looses the light, its the light passing through so many mediums before hitting the digital source that looses the light.

your going through a 35mm lens, some have condensers so there is another piece of glass, then depending on the grit of your GG, the bigger the grit, the more light loss but the nicer bokeh ( hazy out of focus area ) where as a smaller gritt, or AOL cases, you get a nice sharp image without too much ligh loss but the bokeh looks greasy and light.

35mm adapters are a blessing and acurse at the same time. always remember that the mm of the lens as well as your F stop is what indicates your depth of field. Obviously a wide angle lens will have a slightly longer depth of field than a closer lens.

So since you loose light and most static adapters only have about 4 f stops of use before grain makes the image unnacceptable, you have to use anywhere from a 1.2 fstop lens to a 3.something.

at 1.2 you get the most light, which is whta we want for our machines, but a 1.2 iris will have a depth of a few inches. I.E, characters nose is in focus but ears are noticeablly out of focus.

How to achieve a more stable depth? Close down the iris, but this opens new problems. Now youll notice there isnt enough light but your depth of field is good. Whta to do? Need stronger lights.

So yes, 35 mm adapters do make your footage golden like film, but its gunna cost ya alot more than just the adapter to use it to its full potential. Youll need a follow focus, a focus puller, lights, and more.
